Inspiring, motivating and educating you to love your running.
Hi, I’m Chris and I’m a runner – great to meet you!
I passionately believe that running can be the key to unlocking, not only your physical fitness, but your emotional well-being and self-confidence.
Why? Because it’s happening to me.
With this blog I’m looking to give back to the amazing online running community that is helping inspire, motivate and educate me to run better.
So this blog is for non-runners looking to start, new runners looking to improve and any runner who can’t get enough of the sport.
2015 and the start of 6amRUNS
At the age of 40, in late 2015, I went for my first run since I was 28. It was a tough 2 and a bit miles completed in a demoralising 24 minutes (that actually felt more like an hour).
But….I was out again 2 days later and haven;t stopped since.
In those early days, as a full-time worker, husband and father, the only logical window I could find to run was before work and frankly before anyone else woke up!
So I started setting my alarm for 5.25am and heading out, blearly-eyed, into the dark for my 6am runs.
Over time thought I grew to love and now crave my pre-dawn runs – the quiet, the ability to switch my mind off and spend an hour day-dreaming – it’s now one of my favourite times of day.
As I found myself running consistently every week I set myself a challenge – to run 1,000km in 2016 – as part of the Under Armour ‘You VS the Year’challenge.
I ended up finishing in the Top 7% of over 300,000 entrants worldwide and in the process completed:
- 123 runs
- 1,063km (660 miles)
- 5 10k races
- 2 Triathlons
- 1 Aquathlon (finishing 4th in my age group)
- A longest run of 10miles (in 1hr 19mins)
- And a 2 mile work fun run officiated by Dame Kelly Holmes!
Final standing for the Under Armour ‘You VS the Year’ 2016 challenge
Completing the Media Trust Triathlon in July
With Dame Kelly Holmes
Completing the Herts 10k in October 2016
2017 and onwards
For this year I’ve set myself two challenges
Firstly, to complete at least 3 half marathons (one in under 1hr 50mins) and secondly, to set up this blog.
In this blog I’ll update you on how I’m progressing against my goals and provide posts that will inspire, motivate and educate you to run.
If you’d like to be part of this community please sign-up to my Newsletter or follow me on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram – it would be great to hear from you.
